Project Goal: To get a first draft this novel.

Stage of writing: First Draft

What inspired my current project: I read a story on tumblr and read comments that said someone should write a story based off that topic. The suggestions and my desire to expand on it inspired my own version. It's paranormal (not sci-fi as I originally stated).

Last 200 words:

Maggie beamed, “Good, I’ll wait here.”

Eddy grinned at her and tugged on my arm but I stopped then walked over and gave Maggie a hug. She paused confused for a moment but then embraced me back. “It’ll be fine,” she whispered and rubbed my back comfortingly.

“I’ll miss you,” I said which made her bark out in laughter.

“You’ll be back in an hour or two, silly. I’ll see you soon.”

I half waved unable to tell her the entire truth as to why I said it and tears threatened to leak from my eyes but I valiantly held them back as Eddy gently directed me out of the room.

Once the door closed I felt Eddy embrace me tightly and he murmured by my ear, “I have a gut feeling. I won’t say it aloud because I don’t want to jinx it.”

I choked out a laugh and pulled back slightly, “When have you ever been superstitious?”

Thoughts of the Week

Total Words This Week: 7,417

Decided to list some of my thoughts I've had during the week to give you a little more insight on my progress and/or struggles.
  • Once I missed a day it seemed to snowball and I had the crazy idea that I could catch up. Technically it's true but was a close call and I didn't like feeling rushed at the end.
  • Even at 50k the story is far from over but I intend on finishing it later. Not sure if I'll do it in December yet.
  • Apparently I can more or less do 3-4k right before bed as long as I'm focused enough. Technically it's in a sitting or two as I do get up for breaks when I feel like it. Kind of proud about this and wished I was able to do that everyday. My record is about 6k in a day.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

End of the Month Thoughts

Total Words This Month: 50,056

Surprisingly, I'm not as burnt out from writing as I've been in other months where I've written this consistently. Normally I need a few days or a week break between but I was ready to write on Dec. 1. I should have, but didn't. Whoops.

While typing is convenient, I still prefer writing long hand for stories and may attempt to do that in the future again. Maybe during one of the Campnanos. Gives me a better reason to write on the go or while I'm out. I realize I don't particularly enjoy writing on my phone. Autocorrect is my enemy.

Getting started is the hardest part for me when I begin a writing session but once I get going for awhile I tend to be able to pound words out fairly easily. As long as I know where the story is going. Fortunately, I did for this story so the outline was extremely helpful and I will try to do this for the future again.

Glad this story is mostly done with but it does need fleshed out as I tend to write bare bones the first time around. I do need to go back to the first book and finish that story. I also have to figure out the over-arcing themes and ideas over the entire series. I want to know all the details before I go any further with the series so I know where it will eventually end.

Overall, I'm fairly happy with how this month went. I stuck to my outline fairly well and didn't deviate too much. The outline helped when I got stuck on what to write about that day and I know I skipped a lot of transitions. Each plot point beat in my outline seemed to generate about at least 1k of words for me. I technically had 20 beat points but some of those merged or I skipped in general so I think I did well. I made my goal for the moment and I know I'll have to add more to the story that I skipped or needs fleshed out.

I'm proud of my win and hope to be able to use this to motivate myself to keep on moving forward and doing my best. I do plan on doing Campnano next year but from now till the new year, my hopes are to do revisions and planning.

I hope you guys are enjoying reading about my progress of this series with me. Let me know what you think of these updates and what you'd like to see more of in the future!

Last 200 words:

It frustrated me how they were so blind to Sammy and what an amazing kid he is because who knows. Sammy could have turned rebellious and did all sorts of incredibly bad or terrible things. He could have sunk into a deep depression. Yes, they were treating him but they weren’t there for him emotionally.

Sammy needed people he could connect to, someone who would listen to his plights or problems. He needed to be guided and having the only people he could connect to be either a butler or locked in their offices didn’t help. He needed people who would be there for him no matter what. Put his needs before theirs and ultimately be a guardian to him. I knew the Fitzgeralds weren’t but I couldn’t quite figure out why that was because as far as I could see, they had a great life.

Again, I don’t know their past troubles or what they’ve had to deal with but until I find out more about them, it’s better to stay under their radar. I wouldn’t want them to restrict our time together with Sammy because it wouldn’t kill just us, it’d kill Sammy too.

Thoughts of the Week

Total Words This Week: 10,233

Decided to list some of my thoughts I've had during the week to give you a little more insight on my progress and/or struggles.

  • I was so proud I was able to motivate myself to write almost all week when I didn't feel like it. Wrote so late though, right before bedtime so around 9 or 10 pm but it also meant I went to bed later than I expected.
  • Really wished I kept up with Reverse Nanowrimo because I ended up getting busy during the holiday weekend. I could have wrote but ended up spending time trying to wipe my desktop (I use my laptop more) so I could possibly resell it.
  • I missed one day and it snowballed from there.
  • Am glad that my family isn't huge about holidays but I still need to spend time with them. Fortunately they didn't nag me as much as I thought for me spending so much time in my room again.
  • Whoops, posted this way late. Forgot to post it on Friday as I was still busy wiping my computer. EDIT: Posted this before I finished this post. Sorry!

“You keep those boys in line,” I said stealing another kiss. “Check up on Sammy too when you can.”

“Of course,” he said and kissed me on the forehead then stepped back, “See you in a few days.”

I walked back holding his hand as long as I could before I turned around and headed towards the line. Zadie and Amelia stared around pretending to not be watching Eddy and I but I knew they had and I didn’t care. They were already half way through the line so I’m glad I ended it there when I did. I turned back around halfway to them and saw Eddy there with his thumbs hooked on his short loops and I felt my heart stutter. I was still hopelessly in love with this man. I can’t believe that being away for only two days will already be this tough.

By the time I reached Zadie and Amelia they were teasing me with their moony eyes and kissy noises which I could only roll my eyes at them and laugh. “Come on girls. Like you haven’t already found a guy who makes you swoon.”

Thoughts of the Week

Total Words This Week: 13,756

Decided to list some of my thoughts I've had during the week to give you a little more insight on my progress and/or struggles.

  • Dropped the ball on updating this week. Good news is that I finally caught up and am back on track!
  • Forcing myself to start to write is working because once I'm in the groove the words start flowing easily. One day I hit 3k and didn't even realize it! I'm always pleased to see that happen.
  • I proudly was able to keep the word count up and exceed it some throughout the week to get me back on track. There were times I wasn't motivated but I stuck with it.
  • The thing about forcing myself is that I ended up staying up late which made me exhausted the next day which didn't help motivation which made it a terrible cycle of not being motivated then me being exhausted the next day. Set your priorities better than me.
  • Hoping I'll be able to keep it up this coming week as I know it'll be the holidays and the busiest time of the month for me.

I remembered that he loved soccer but for now I decided that he didn’t need a reminder of what he couldn’t do right now but I had bought him a soccer ball which I hoped he would use one day in the future. Besides the basics I didn’t add too much of anything else because I wanted him to fill the rest of it himself. My hope is that he learns to show himself to us. Even though he has been little by little I know that there’s a part of him that he shut out from us and while I knew that it would be best to give him space I also wanted him to know that we’d be there to help catch him and help dust him off if he needed it.

I bounced on my toes in excitement at how much I hoped he would love this room and love staying with us. I couldn’t stop the smile that found itself permanently tattooed to my face. The possibilities of raising him. Already I knew that he would grow into a magnificent young man. Just a few nudges here and there and he would live a healthy and fulfilling life.

  • HAPPY FRIDAY THE 13TH!
  • Have not been exercising. *hangs head in shame*
  • Not keeping up with the reverse Nanowrimo method as I had intended. I've fallen behind and have yet to catch up. I just need an over 3k day and I'd be caught up to the typical Nanowrimo standard.
  • At least I've been able to keep up for the most part. I could do better.
  • Biggest issue is getting motivated to write despite having the time to do it.
  • *gasp* Almost half way through the story, word-count-wise.

I looked around at the three, “Do you guys want to come?”

Zadie gave me an apologetic look, “I’m busy doing something. I’m not sure if bombarding him with unfamiliar faces is a good idea right now.”

Chase shook her head, “I already have some plans with Victoria. Can we get a rain check?”

“Of course,” I turned to Dylan, “How about you?”

Dylan half shrugged, “Let me check my calendar.” After a pause he nodded and grinned, “I’m free.”

My lips twisted in false annoyance then remembered our current state of dress in pajamas, “Then get ready in five minutes.”

Dylan took off yelling behind him, “You’re such a slave driver.”

“You haven’t seen nothing yet boy!” I called after him.

Chase and Zadie picked at the leftover bacon. I slid off the stool, “You know you two can stay as long as you want. Just make sure to clean up and lock up after you’re done.”

They shared a look and nodded. Zadie shot me a winning smile, “Don’t worry. We’ll take care of everything.”

I smiled as I glided up the stairs. Those two were up to something but I didn’t have the time to figure it out yet.

Decided to list some of my thoughts I've had during the week to give you a little more insight on my progress and/or struggles.

  • Tough to get motivated the first few days. Once I got in the rhythm I was able to get a good amount done. Wasn't able to do the Reverse Nanowrimo method as I had hoped but at least I'm on track for now.
  • I know I'm going to fall behind this weekend as I'll be out of town. Hope I can make it up afterwards.
  • Surprisingly wrote more than I thought I would for the first week. Almost 10k.
  • The writing this time around isn't as fluid or sophisticated as my previous stories. Soldiering on and will fix it with revisions. Trying to get the bones down.

2014 Nanowrimo Noble Failure + Website

Here's my Nanowrimo Noble Failure. Yeah, it's not too impressive but not bad since that is all hand written. This year was not my best. I got stuck early on and then life began to hit me all at once. Without going into all the details the gist is: family, job interviewing, and glutened. lol

There were a few days I could have written but I didn't. Mostly because I didn't feel like it and then decided I needed a website. For those of you not following me on twitter, I created a new personal/small business website portfolio! Check it out at EAHuey.com and let me know what you think!

I haven't been reading, sketching, or writing anything lately which I miss dearly. I have not been able to manage my time as efficiently these days because of the emotional and physical drains.

I hope that you all did well with Nanowrimo! I will still be attempting to edit my current projects. Hopefully I'll be able to do so more during Winter break but I have a feeling my family will want to do things which I won't say no to because they probably wouldn't take no as an answer. Plus it is becoming more rare for me to see them so I won't deny my time with them.

By the way, still looking for people willing to beta my books! So if you like YA fantasty, scifi, or paranormal feel free to contact me! :D

2014 Nanowrimo Wk 1 - WritingProject: WYDM Intro and Update #1

Would You Date Me?!

Want to follow my daily progress? Follow me at:
Twitter @ Aisazia
Project Goal: To get a first draft of a romance/contemporary novel.

Stage of writing: First Draft

What inspired my current project: A story that was going to be based off a couple of characters in my head that were supposed to be a comic. Then I realized I need a story before I actually draw it. lol

Last Update WC: 0
Week's Total WC: 8,400
Total Story WC: 8,400

Daily WC:
  1. 1,925
  2. 2,075
  3. 2,200
  4. 2,200
  5. 0
  6. 0
  7. 0
If you're curious about my math (I adjust as needed but I always underestimate my current word count):

  • Write 7 pages like normal in my current Staples Sustainable Earth Composition Notebook
  • Count words by line for each of those 7 pages then divided by number of lines on the page (25 lines)
  • Take averages of all 7 pages then find average words per line = 11.2 words
  • 11 (words) x 25 (lines) = 275 words per page
  • 1667 (daily word count) / 275 = 6.06 pages
  • Round up and overestimate word count = 7 pages a day

Thus I need to write at least 7 pages a day to make my daily word count.

No excerpts since I'm hand writing everything and don't want to type it up as I go but have some blurred pictures instead! lol *dodges tomatoes*

Nanowrimo 2013 Lessons Learned and Future Plans

Whoo hoo!!! Nanowrimo is over! I didn't really get to expand too much in the previous post but I'm sure you all already knew that. Those who were following that at least. XD I won at 50,044 words! The story I was working is (tentatively named) Decryption and the genre is Cyberpunk. I'm not listing a synopsis until I have the first draft completely written. ^_^;;

Anyways, I just wanted to list a few things that I learned while participating in my 2nd Nanowrimo and the first time that I won it! I'm very pleased with myself for getting that far but was disappointed at slacking the last two weeks only to make up the rest the last two days. lol But I did it and that's what's important.

What I learned about myself during Nanowrimo 2013:
  • I can write 6k in a day if I push myself (set a new record for me and that's with also going to work)
  • I average 4k a day with working part time
  • I write better in several sessions than all at once. (Preferably once in the morning and once in the evening)

40% off Storenvy Store + Nanowrimo 2013 Winner

Hey guys! Some of you might know that I have an online store where I sell my art prints, books, stickers, and buttons. If not, go check it out~~>http://aisazia.storenvy.com

Well in celebration of the holidays I decided to have a little sale going on till December 31 for 40% off using the code "HappyHolidays2013".

I can make anything in my gallery a print or button just contact me if you're interested in something that isn't available in the store. :D

Please spread the word! Thanks!

In other words, I won Nanowrimo this year! It's my first time with a whopping total of 50,044! lol I could write more but I realized I need more structure and will have to rewrite what I already have so I decided to wait and get a good outline before I fix it. lol It was fun and I am amazed that I was able to finish it by mostly pants-ing it. I usually consider myself a plotter so it was interesting to find out that I can do both. haha

How have you all been this holiday season? Did you all have a good Thanksgiving? Did you guys win Nanowrimo? What's going on with you guys?

Nanowrimo 2013 + 2011 Sketch Dump

Man, November crept up on me. I had planned on getting a lot of reading done before the start of November. I specially wanted to knock off a few books off the list of ARCs I have. They are supposed to be done for my book review blog. I'm still working on those but I think it might be time to invest in an e-reader. It's harder to read when I'm on the computer but I still personally prefer reading in the printed book format.

Whoot! So Nanowrimo starts today! I'll be using the Reverse Nanowrimo Method where I write a bulk of the word count at the beginning of the month. :D I've scheduled some sketch posts to go up every Friday this month. I'm not sure I'll be able to post any text with it (I'll try if I can) but I should have been doing this all along. Sorry there were no posts lately. Really sort of regretting taking a class this semester hasn't been too fun. OTL

Oh the story I plan on working on for Nanowrimo is "Decryption" which I'm mostly "pants-ing" so I don't really know what I'm going to do with it but hopefully it'll be fun and interesting. I'm considering starting a new sketchbook specifically for it which I want to call a "writer's sketchbook" or something along the lines of that. It'll be to help develop the story as I go. lol The thing is I already sort of have 3 notebooks going. Well 2 but the 3rd might either be a story bible or an "edits" list notebook. lol I've been indecisive lately but the start of the event will get my butt into gear.

Are any of you guys doing Nanowrimo? I'll be tweeting progress on my twitter if you're interested in following me. :D

Nanowrimo Prep + Homework Sketch Dump 18

Sorry guys, been busy these last few weeks. I had a birthday (Oct. 14) and things just kept coming up so I've been delaying writing any posts then BAM it's a couple weeks later. Thought I should try to get this out here even though it's not much. :)

I'd love to have a better excuse but I don't. *hangs head in shame* I haven't even been able to sketch as much as I wanted to lately. I was able to pick up pen and paper today. I still have been journaling daily which is good. I have been reading a lot so that's something but still haven't been able to write any review any books. I've also been trying to stew any brainstormed ideas for the upcoming Nanowrimo in November. Anyone else doing it? Let me know! We can be writing buddies! I do have the awesome author of Law of the Dead as a writing buddy but the more the merrier, right? :D

I was on and off with which project I should write for Nanowrimo. I wanted to either start a new story completely or continue one I already started. I was getting stuck on the new one because I was hoping for an outline but it's not as fleshed out as I would have liked. Still I was pushing on and then I started to doubt myself but then managed to figure out some basic story plots so I'm continuing with the original plan of writing a new story. So my lesson is to keep at it, even if things aren't falling into place yet, they will eventually. :D

Hope you all have a great Halloween! I'll be celebrating with lots of candy and Horror shows. XD

Nanowrimo 2013 Prep + 2012 Sketch Dump

Hey guys! Welp it's the end of September and I'm finally getting some inspiration ideas for my story for Nanowrimo 2013 in November. I am finding that I'm merging story ideas which is interesting but I still need to write a good outline but I'm working on it. Any of you guys attempting it this year? Let me know! We can be buddies! :D

Homework Sketch Dump 17 + 2013 July Campnanowrimo

Sorry guys, can't seem to focus anymore these days. Still working on crunch time with con month coming up so I want to get new prints going. I wanted to do buttons but that's still up in the air. Doubt I'll have enough time to do it, plus I need the machine. Anyone have a used Tecre 1.5 inch button maker they are willing to sell me for a discount? Any extra button supplies would be a bonus! :D For now I'll just have new stickers, prints, and hopefully a little sketchbook. :D

Oh I've been doing Campnanowrimo this month but my word count is significantly less. It's 20k which is actually a good amount for me, enough to feel accomplished but not too overwhelming when I'm trying to do something else during the day. I've been able to keep on par or catch up to the daily word count so that's a good thing! To be fair, I did do Junowrimo most of last month so that kind of wore me out. I finished at a little above 35k which is the most I've ever written for a Nanowrimo which is an accomplishment. :D I might try a goal of 30k next month just to see if that's better in pushing me but still enough that I don't feel overwhelmed or burnt out.

2012 SD + Self Pub Sketchbook? + Junowrimo End

Friends, would you guys be interested in a self-published sketchbook from me? It would be a small and cheap 20 paged book. If so, what kind of sketches would you like to see? Would you like it if I wrote little blurbs on the sides or just leave it as sketch images?

Been trying to do more sketching and watercolors but lately I've been trying to work on my novel for Junowrimo. I got to about 35k before I decided to stop because I ran out of material and had no idea where my story was going. It's been a valiant effort but I think I would have really nailed this if I actually planned a good outline. I'm glad I got this far on pantsing alone but I'm definitely a planner. I think I'll be able to include what I've written into something good. Just need to make the connections. I like what I've written so far, of course major editing will be needed but it's a good start and I'm proud that I made it this far. Did you any of you guys participate? Did you win?! :D

I'll be participating in July Campnano after this crazy Junowrimo but my word count will be far less and I'll be working on a different story in general. I'm thinking I'll do 20-25k for my word count because it's more of a comic script than a novel. It's actually Blindfolded Love (the characters I sketched below) I plan on working for Campnano so I have a clearer idea of Niella and Kuwei's story. I just wanted it more detailed because right now it's just generalized so that isn't good enough for me. I would also love to get the pages thumbnailed if I have enough time for that during the month.

Homework Sketch Dump 11 + Janowrimo Progress + Ohayocon 2013

I haven't been very good at deciding what blog posts to write as of lately. I've been meaning to write blog posts ahead of time but I've been working on other things. For instance, I've been able to do some beta book reviews although I was a bit late on the deadlines. Still managed to get that done and a few other library books I've been meaning to read. Still haven't really made a dent in the pile of books I've wanted to read. I will be able to get to more of those eventually. XD

I've also not been able to write for Janowrimo lately but I'm hoping to be able to make that up by up-ing my word count based on the rest of the days I have left. I've also decided to change stories as I haven't been feeling inspired to write the other one without a good solid outline. This story is a bit more lenient and I'll be able to change things without any worries. Progress is slow and I haven't really worked on a good outline for the story but I've already written a bare bones outline so I know more or less how it will end. Let's hope I'll be able to keep up with that word count.

Ohayocon is this weekend which I'm sort of not ready for but will hopefully be fun. :) I'll get to see my friends and I hope that I won't spend too much money. haha I do wonder if I'm starting to get too old for that stuff. I'm deciding whether or not to attend next year but I'll decide after I go this year.

Nanowrimo Ends but Janowrimo Begins!

So I was about to erase my dry erase board before I decided to take a picture which is why there is a white space where a line should be between Monday and Tuesday. XD Sorry about that. haha

My first Nanowrimo was a failure for 2012. I was attempting to write my version of Beauty and the Beast called Wildly Charming. I've been procrastinating on this post for far too long. I should have wrote this blog post right after the event. haha It wasn't a complete failure though since I was able to get to 12,477 words. I think I wasn't as ready for it because I didn't have a good outline so I was pulling stuff out of my butt. When I got about several days behind I was torn between continuing or stopping and have a better outline. I settled for stopping. I know, bad. Still I was starting brainstorm and thought about combining some of my stories into one. Then I decided to change the setting and story line which basically makes everything I wrote useless. lol Still it was a good experience. I've decided that I need to have a good solid outline before I'm able to write decently.

Right now I'm sort of attempting the January Nanowrimo which is called on Twitter #Janowrimo and I'm giving it a try but not doing so good at the moment. I really want to get Cryptic Treasures written but I haven't made a good outline for it yet although I have written a screen play which I'm loosely basing the novel on. The novel is going to be more in depth than the screen play. This story I've been plotting for awhile but never got around to actually writing it and it's been sitting for a long time. The characters in this story feel more alive to me than any others but as always the middle is always murky to me. Not going to give up and will try to go write it the best I can for now and edit the crap out of it later. lol

Lessons I've Learned:

  • Outlines are good
  • Know the characters beforehand
  • Have at least one general problem to for the hero/heroine to overcome
  • Keep a minimum amount of characters possible that keeps the story going
  • Don't get caught up with grammar/spelling
  • Have a point in each scene
  • Take notes of inspiration when you get it or you'll forget it
Those are the ones I can think of at the moment but I may add some later after I finish the January Nanowrimo. Now I probably was not as dedicated as many other Nanowriters so just take my opinions with a grain of salt. I really hope to get a project finished by the end of the year. I should update my New Year Resolution and Goals. haha Next post I suppose. lol Hope we all have a happy and successful 2013!

Homework Sketch Dump 6 + Happy Thanksgiving

Sketches I had to do for my 3D modeling homework at school. These sketches were all copied from Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life. It's interesting to learn to draw from it. Hopefully it improves my anatomy. XD

Fell extremely behind with Nanowrimo and with these blog posts. Sorry guys, I need to spend time to write a substantial post. No good excuse really. Work and school. Right after work I don't feel like doing much. I don't like how the sun is setting so early. T^T I prefer drawing in the day time in natural light. Also I don't like wasting electricity. lol

Got my wisdom teeth out last Friday which was a bit nerve wracking but I'm doing well now. I was awake the whole time and shaking. lol Not good but it went ok, I was fine the next day. I'm still healing but I've been eating solid foods which is good. Feel almost back to normal but still don't wanna over extend my jaw or anything. I'm off pain meds so that's always good, I didn't even take a lot after the surgery which I'm grateful. Actually the entire experience was good for me. I'm very blessed and lucky to not have any horror stories or such a painful experience.

Caged Cranes Giveaway Winner and Nanowrimo Ramble

The for my Caged Cranes giveaway is

Jennifer Hall!

I've emailed the winner and you have a week to contact me again before it goes to someone else.

Thanks for entering everyone! This was a very successful giveaway. I will have to do another one sometime. Hope you all have a great November!

Speaking of November, I've fallen a bit behind on Nanowrimo which is bad. I should have worked on the outline some more. Right now I'm just pulling stuff out of my butt. haha Still I'm trying to catch up. I think I can do it. Just need to sit my butt down and type more often. I'm horrible about starting but once I do I'm good. It's bad that I skipped a few days. I hope to not fall behind again once caught up. Really want to get ahead if I can but we'll see. If you're doing it let me know! Add me! My username is "Aisazia" of course. :D

Good luck to my other Nanowrimo comrades! Hope you guys are succeeding more than me! lol
