24 Hour Comic Brainstorm 2011

Heyo! Sorry for missing a post last week but I was able to get something up on Saturday which I hope you'll check out. Apparently this CampNanoWriMo is really throwing me off. I've been trying to get this novel idea written down and trying to keep up with it so I've been slacking on everything else. lol It's harder than I thought it would be to write this. Next time I think I'll need a tighter outline. The outline I wrote for this story is really loose and then I keep adding more new complex elements which I'm not sure where I'm taking it. XD I guess that's what revisions will be for. haha

Ok the image below is basically how I structured out my 24 Hour Comic for 2011. I'm actually still in the process of cleaning and toning all the pages. I'm about half way done but still, need to get that done before the end of the year at least. I was hoping by the end of the month but we'll see how that goes.

If you can decipher it. XD Don't read it if you don't want to be spoiled about my comic!

Story Predictability

I've been thinking about stories and how predictable they can be. I know a lot of you are creators/comic artists/writers, and if you've done your studying on creating a good story you would know the basics of a good story structure. Then based on that certain structure a writer could create good stories and plots. Good story-tellers follow them and great story-tellers follow and break them.

Lately I've found that I can predict some, not all, story plots in movies or TV shows. There are a few well told stories where I'm pleasantly surprised by the ending. That just increases my love for the movie/TV show/writers. How is it for you guys? Do you enjoy being able to predict the endings? Or would you rather enjoy a good surprise? I personally enjoy a good surprise. :)

As I've been writing and creating I feel as if my stories are too predictable and cliched. I want a good well-written plot with a twist ending. I know I can be my own worst critic but sometimes I feel that if a scene is too easy to figure out, I try to twist it so it's less predictable. Then it makes the story much more complicated. I don't know if the reader understands or can follow the story if I use that technique too much.

JCP Mission and Script/Sketch Update

Heh, yep I'm still sketching once in awhile. ^_~ The image above is a previous scene for a JCP Mission that I thought of after I already had the line art of the other image done. Click here to see the finished image of their reaction. It is basically Eilam whistling while Felix on the left is hollering at some girls while poor Duorick (middle) is stuck appalled. The guys are just cat-calling some girls showing Duorick how to pick up some girls. lol It was fun to do.

Unified Comic-Making Day+Contest

This pic was drawn for a co-worker who wanted chibi zombies. XD Some of it is really craptastic so please forgive the quality. lol

There is a 12 hour Unified Comic-Making Day going on at Comicdish.com which I was considering joining but probably will end up watching since I have plans later that night. Plus the comic I was going to use ended up being more than 12 pages and I've already started some of it. I need to finish blue penciling it.

Also won 2nd place on the contest I entered on dA! Not bad, wish I won first but who doesn't? lol I get free art so not a bad deal there. lol

I don't know if any of you have noticed but the sketches I'm putting up are from the last 2 years or so. XD I have finally compiled them but am putting them up randomly as I feel. XD I need to organize it more but you can see the changes in my art. Have been able to do a few more sketches of my chars lately so hopefully I'll have more sketches to put up.
